Date Of Birth: August 13, 1910
Date Of Death: February 3, 2011

Dr. Chester C. Stowell age 100 was born in Fayette, Fulton County Ohio August 13, 1910. He died February 3, 2011. Preceded in death by wife Lola Gleason Stowell, parents Harry and Etta Stowell, brothers Ferris, Dwight, Wesley, Avery and sisters, Irene, Naomi, Eunice, and Dorthy.
Survived by sons, Larry (Sandra) Indianapolis, Ken (Kathy) Santa Cruz CA., daughter Cheryl Stowell, Fishers, IN., niece Jean (Gordon) Brown, Cumming Georgia, granddaughter Christy Stowell, and great granddaughter Mikayla Stowell, CA.
Chester taught school for nearly 16 years, starting in a one room schoolhouse and later junior high in Fayette, Ohio. He also was a farmer at the same time. In 1945 he moved to Indianapolis to attend Lincoln Chiropractic College. He dedicated 25 years to Lincoln as a professor, registrar, and dean. He was named who’s who among men in the Midwest, named Indiana Chiropractor of the year (1976), Lincoln College outstanding teacher (1969), and was bestowed the honor of Kentucky Colonel.
Lincoln Chiropractic College merged with National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, IL and he served as Dean of students until retiring as Dean of students Emeritus in 1990. At National he was awarded the president’s gold medallion award for 40 years of service to chiropractic. The students at National dedicated the “Mirror yearbook to Dr. Stowell as “the friend of students. He retired in 1990 at the age of 80. He remembered friends and family’s birthdays and anniversary’s, both by mail and phone. He was a prayer warrior everyday for friends and family. He loved the lord with all his heart and soul.
He was a member of Hope Church in Carmel, and later attended Wheaton Free Evangelical Church while living in Wheaton, IL.
Due to the weather conditions and the fact that friends and family live all over the country, there will be no funeral service at this time. All his friends and family helped celebrate his 100 years of life at his 100th birthday celebration in August. There will be a small graveside service at Lincoln Memory Gardens and a memorial service will be held in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Wheaton Free Evangelical Church in Wheaton, or National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, IL. You may sign his online guestbook at www.indianafuneralcare.com.

I was fortunate to have Dr. Stowell as a professor and Dean while I was a student at Lincoln Chiropractic College, 1965-1969. I will always remember his soft spoken voice, kindness, fairness to all and of course his brilliant memory. Everyone around him was lucky to have had him for 100 years. What a blessing. Rest in peace beloved professor. Your memory lives on.

Dear Cheryl and other family members. It was my very good fortune to have first met Dr. Stowell in 1971 when he came to National from Lincoln and to have worked with him for many years when I returned to National in 1985. Dr. Stowell had a fine sense of humor, a great memory and a dedication to chiropractic medicine and to National that was simply outstanding. In behalf of all of us here at National University of Health Sciences, I extend our deepest sympathy even while we rejoice in the knowledge that Dr. Stowell is now with his Savior whom he loved so much.

    Most Sincerely,

    Jim Winterstein
    President – NUHS

Prayers & thoughts to you on your Dad’s passing. Reading about his long & productive life brings back good memories.
